Not Your Average Local

Neutral Bay has a new local—The Local Bar, a small friendly joint with big name backing has brought colour & life to a small laneway in Neutral Bay. The owners collectively boast a CV which includes Jurassic Park, The Lord of the Rings, producing & directing hit TV shows & Aussie favourite The Castle and last but not least 2 gents with outstanding careers playing for the Waratahs & Wallabies.

Have you guessed them? Owners Sam Neill, David Wenham, Rob Sitch, George Gregan and Phil Waugh, provide a plethora of star power—but don’t expect a red carpet rollout!

The Local Bar is an unpretentious down to earth place to relax and kick-back. There is a quaint charm that harks back to a bygone era with the use of a stunning pressed tin bar façade and a glamorous white marble bar top. This is juxtaposed so beautifully with the rawness of the cinderblock walls and an edgy mural on the back wall. These hard sleek surfaces are softened with the warmth provided by timber ceiling surfaces and some well-chosen lighting fixtures.

The humble little bar has a strong focus on good wine, good conversation & good charcuterie. The wine list is extensive & adventurous, but there’s no surprise there with co-owner Sam Neill spending his down time running his New Zealand winery, Two Paddocks. Our advice to navigating the vast drinks list is to allow the experienced palates behind the bar to take you on a wine or cocktail adventure.
